The idle temperature is the important one and it should be in the 150°-160° range. At high speeds the thermostats are bypassed and the pressure relief valve opens so the engine temp will be cooler, usually about 50° above lake water temp. be 150°F ± 20°F (66°C ± 11°C). with Thermal Joint Compound, P/N 322170. 2020. 1. 12. · Before you can determine what should be operating temperature of the diesel engine, or any other optimal settings to learn about what constitutes its construction and principle of operation. 2011. 2. 27. · Yeah..I played with this for a long time. With a 180 thermo mine would jump to 210-220 and would scare the crap out of me. Then tried a 160, still to hot so I ordered a 140 degree, now it tops out at 180-190. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO YOU ALL!! My operating temp now is 140-160 and so now I run a colder weight oil, synthetic 5-30w I think it is. 2007. 1. 3. · Operating temperature What is the proper temperature at cruise for 3126s. Apr 09, 2020 · By Staff Writer Last Updated April 09, 2020. The average operatingtemperature of an engine is found by measuring the temperature of the thermostat housing with an infrared thermometer and should be between 180-200 degrees Fahrenheit. Various parts of the engine can reach different temperatures depending on their location and function inside ....
Just wondering. I would think that your engine should run at least 180, however due to the jet boat configurations and cool continuous water flow most do not reach that. As everyone has said, it falls far short of that. while technically you should be able to make more hp at lower engine temps, cooler temps are not good for the wear factor.
Jul 26, 2021. #27. Boats go their top speeds at high RPM's unlike a 1997 Chevy Blazer equipped with the 4.3. It might go 70 at 2200 RPM, but that's about it. A boat may cruise anywhere from 5-8k. 25w40 is a 40 weight oil, but more shear stable. Marine oils also have more "anti water" additives. K.
Jul 07, 2019 · ‘87 Merc 260 would have a 160* thermostat, pre-‘85 had 140* and depending on where you boat the 140* might be better. Water temps by me can hit 90* so I ran the 140* on my old boat, but if you boat a cold water lake the 160* will be better. Without a IR thermometer the best way to check (carefully) it to touch the top of the exhaust manifolds..

Jan 19, 2010 · That temperature should really not change whether the engine is brand new or 10 years old, The manufactures put thermostates into their engines with specific operating temps because that is the temperature that they run best at and are at their most efficiant in terms of engine wear, fuel economy/efficiancy and emmisions.. 2017. 2. 21. · Today almost all new marine engines use the closed cooling system design. These systems are pressurized, just like your car or truck. By increasing the pressure inside the closed part of the system, the boiling point of the coolant is enhanced. For every pound of pressure added, approximately 3° F can be added to your engine’s operating.
Cooling systems. There is an optimum temperature at which your Perkins engine needs to run to maximise its efficiency and prolong its life. The cooling system - which is made up of several different but complementary components - is vital in preventing engines from over-heating and breaking down. Every engine needs some form of cooling. 2022. 5. 6. · Search: Boat Engine Temperature Gauge.
